A Transforming Gift

Timeline:1970s

Samuel M. Melton transformed Jewish education and made Ohio State a leader in Jewish Studies. The Samuel M. Melton Center for Jewish Studies, established at The Ohio State University in 1976 was the first center for Jewish studies at an American public university. Jewish Studies at Ohio State is one of the largest and most diverse programs in the country.

"Sam Melton was truly a visionary who understood early on the importance of teaching about Jewish life and culture at the university level. In our course offerings, programming and community events, the Melton Center has reflected Sam's vision for Jewish education at all levels."
