Harvesting Opportunity

Timeline:1980s

In the 1980s the Campbell Soup Fund became a pathway to higher education for migrant workers and their families in Ohio. The fund provided a $40,000 donation in 1984 to the Ohio State University Office of Minority Affairs, the largest donation ever received at that time by the office.

Jose Cruz, Vice Provost for the Office of Minority Affairs, set forth a goal to utilize the donation to recruit up to 20 students from migrant families over the next four years by awarding scholarships to the top high school students from migrant families that live in or travel to Ohio each year.

Learn more in the video below about how the fund helped one of those families through their son, Leobardo Martinez.
