Advancing Deaf Culture in the Classroom and Beyond

Timeline:2010s

Trena Shank has been teaching American Sign Language at Ohio State for over fourteen years. She shares the story of how she found her passion for teaching, strategies for teaching ASL to hearing students and how her work helps spread awareness of deaf culture more broadly.

"The hearing students that I teach, they’re like sponges for deaf culture and deaf education…I feel like I’m planting a seed and then I get to watch this flower bloom."
